STRATFORD — No arrests have been made and no new details have been released in the investigation into the New Year’s Eve death of an 8-year-old South Jersey girl.

Camden County prosecutors said Wednesday they are probing into the death of Sailor Righter, who the press identified as the daughter of a borough police officer.

Prosecutors on Wednesday said their investigation “revealed that only family members were present at the time of the incident, ruling out the involvement of unknown individuals.”

But they have not said if there are any suspects or even whether they believe a crime might have been committed.

Sailor’s brother called 911 about 1:50 p.m. on Saturday to report that his sister was unresponsive and not breathing, according to a recording of the call obtained by WPG's sister station, New Jersey 101.5, under the state’s Open Public Records Act.

Righter was pronounced dead 2:15 p.m. at Kennedy Hospital. Prosecutors said she “succumbed to her injuries,” but did not describe what the injuries were.

Her brother makes no mention of injuries during the brief phone call in which the 911 dispatcher struggled to get the youngster to answer her questions.

“She’s unconscious?” the dispatcher asked.

“I don’t know exactly,” he said. “My mom just went upstairs and found her and she told me to call 911.”

Her obituary says “Sailor was a beautiful little girl with an infectious smile.”

"She adored cheerleading and playing softball. She will be forever missed by her family."

Services are Friday Eugene J. Zale Funeral Home. The family requested memorial donations to be made in Sailor's name for Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide.
