A bizarre incident in Atlantic City this week as a 12-year-old boy stole his grandparents car, crashed it, injuring the driver of another car. The boy fled the scene.

He's been found, but police can't find the car.

Here are the details, from the Atlantic City Police Department:

On June 19, 2019, a 12- year old male was arrested after stealing his grandparent’s car, crashing into a car, and leaving the scene.

At 6:55 pm, patrol officers responded to Massachusetts and Mediterranean Avenues for a report of a hit and run crash. Officers arrived to find a vehicle with extensive damage and an injured driver. The driver, a 20 year old man from Mays Landing, NJ, was struck by a Chevrolet Cruze that fled the scene leaving behind the license plate. The driver was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, for treatment of his injuries.

Patrol officers had responded to several calls for service for the fleeing vehicle for erratic driving, and that it was being driven by a young juvenile prior to the crash. The officers were never able to locate the vehicle.

Officers went to the registered owner’s address in the 100 block of north Delaware Avenue. They spoke with the owner, and determined that a 12- year old juvenile had taken the car keys and stole the vehicle. The juvenile was criminally charged for his actions and stayed in the custody of his grandparents. He was not injured in the crash.

CHARGED: A 12- year old male from Atlantic City.

CHARGES: Unlawful taking of means of conveyance and numerous motor vehicle summons.

The juvenile will have a future court date.
