Darden Restaurants Shuts Down 28 Locations
After three decades, Darden Restaurants is shutting down all 28 remaining Bahama Breeze locations nationwide, including the Garden State's only remaining spot.
Darden, which also owns Olive Garden, Longhorn Steakhouse, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, and many more, says it will convert about half of the closing restaurants to other chains it owns, while the rest will simply close for good.
The Cherry Hill location, along with the next-closest Bahama Breeze spots in King of Prussia, PA, and Newark, DE, will not be converted, according to published reports.
Bahama Breeze History
Business Insider says the chain first opened in Orlando in 1996. Signs of trouble appeared last spring when Darden closed more than a dozen locations and hinted that "strategic alternatives" were being discussed.
Darden's website says it operates over 2,100 restaurants nationwide and employs 200,000 people.
