Galloway Councilman Unveils Safer Schools Kindness Contest
Following February's Florida school shooting that took the lives of 17 people and a month of of local school threats and lockdowns, Galloway Councilman Frank Santo has proposed a kindness campaign encouraging students to reach out to a classmate and make a new friend.
Santo, a Reeds Road School fifth grade teacher, has posted Facebook message explaining the idea behind his United Safety Challege, after getting the go-ahead for the contest at Tuesday's Township Council Meeting.
So, how do you win the contest? Students are asked to go out of their way to make a new friend at school, and then, with their parent's approval, post about their experience on Santo's Facebook page. At the of March, a winner will be chosen from all submissions and invited to dinner with Santo and Galloway Mayor Anthony Coppolo, Jr.
As Santo says on the attached Facebook video,
" Maybe this is someone of a different race or a different religion or simply someone with different interests. This small act of unity can make us safer"
