Police responded to the Festival Mall Shopping Center between the Black Horse Pike and Route 40 in Mays Landing around 9:30 Thursday morning after a report of an underground natural gas line that was damaged during construction in a parking lot.
Police say contractors were working in the area behind Jo-Ann Fabrics, drilling holes for parking lot lighting to be installed. While drilling, a natural gas line was struck, causing a leak.
A few stores in the shopping center were briefly evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported and all of the stores opened after repairs were made.
