Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Has Received Information From The Public
People have been targeted, said the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Fake messages are being sent to unsuspecting victims, staring that they are from the DMV or NJMVC.
The scheme is to alert the text message recipient that there is a problem with your driver’s license or automobile registration.
The scammers are trying to get you to click on malicious links, which can give them access to your personal identity and financial information.
This is very similar to recent EZ-Pass and NJ toll service communications scams.
The NJMVC has confirmed that they do not send unsolicited text messages regarding driver’s licenses or motor vehicle registrations.
The only text messages that the NJMVC sends out are for appointment reminders.
If You Receive One Of These Scam Messages:
- Do not respond or click any links.
- Do not share any personal or financial information.
- Report the text by forwarding it to 7726 (SPAM) on your mobile phone.
