
Atlantic City, NJ, Man Charged With Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child
- David Roary is accused of sexually assaulting a girl
- Authorities say he exchanged sex acts for marijuana and a vape pen
- He faces multiple charges, including aggravated sexual assault under the Jessica Lunsford Act
Authorities in Atlantic County say a man is facing charges following the sexual assault of a child.
Arrest Made Following Investigation
According to the Atlantic City Police Department, on September 29th, their detectives began an investigation after the parent of a 13-year-old girl alerted them to possible sexual acts occurring between the child and an adult.
Police: Relationship Began When Victim Was 12
Detectives say they were able to quickly identify the adult as 41-year-old David Roary of Atlantic City, and they "locate[d] text messages between Roary and the child indicating a sexual relationship that began when the juvenile was 12 years old."
Roary provided a THC vape pen and/or marijuana to the child in exchange for the sex acts, according to officials.
On October 1st, members of the Atlantic City Police Department's SWAT Team executed a search warrant in the 1100 block of Baltic Avenue, and Roary was taken into custody without incident.
Charges Include Aggravated Sexual Assault
Roary is facing the following charges:
- Aggravated sexual assault
- 2 counts of sexual assault
- Criminal sexual contact
- Endangering the welfare of a child
- Possession of CDS
Roary's aggravated sexual assault charge falls under the Jessica Lunsford Act, which increases the potential penalty that he is facing.
He is being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
